Horse Training for Dummies
Here is a link to a webpage I wrote in 2005 about my adventures with the wiley mustang, Jemez Dancing. I am reposting here because Clay had never seen it and Google has forgotten to google it. You have to click the read more to get the whole story.
"My mustang has been bolting out from under me for the last year. After each disaster, I spend a couple of months in ground work and try riding him again, but every time, he gets panicky and off I go. I determined that it wasn't a backpain issue because he does the same thing with anything over his back. I tied empty cardboard boxes to his surcingle and got the same bolty reaction. Instead of riding him myself and getting hurt (again), I decided to enlist some help."....Read More
When you get done: check this MPG file to see a clip on when driving goes awry..
Then look at this. This is the result after I had switched over to training with positive reinforcement for a few months. I was pretty proud of him at that point. This was in the summer of 2006. He regressed last winter when I sent him out to Billy for training and he is not quite as steady as he was last summer, but he is coming around fast.
My hubbie gave his interest in JD to Clay. Clay is taking him to Wyoming to herd cattle this summer. Billy Hibbler has been telling Clay what an outlaw the Wiley Mustang is, not knowing he's talking to the co-owner. Billy's been talking trash about both my mustangs. It's got Clay aggravated ... he's gonna get both Cisco and Jemez ready for a long trek. I am supposed to teach them to fart on command, and we are going to pay a social call on Mr. Hibbler.
Should be an interesting spring!

It does sound like you have an interesting spring ahead of you. don't you just hate it when someone thinks they know more than you but don't have the nerve to say it to your face.
